Over the years, Len Thompson lures have helped land some real beauties.
One of Greg's favorite photos of a Rainbow Trout he hooked in the Crowsnest using a No. 8 GF (Original Series Green Frog):
Do you have a favorite photo of of a great fish taken on a Len Thompson spoon? If you do, send us the photo and some info about your catch, and we may add your shot here! If you have a digital camera or scanner, email the photo to Photos@LenThompson.com. Or, just mail us the picture and we may add it to the website.

Jarrett Lane and his buddy Ryan Seitz (holding the pike) caught these beauties and several more like them (lots of great photos!) this summer and fall in the South Saskatchewan River near Medicine Hat. Both the pike and walleye in the photos were caught on a five of diamonds, and they also had luck with the red & white.
Jarrett also reports success using a Len Thompson lure bought by his grandfather in 1959, and stored in the original package in his grandfather's tackle box for almost 50 years! (Fall 2007)

Matthieu Brassard caught this beauty in Gull Lake this summer. It measured 36.5 inches and 18.6 lbs. (July 2007)

Lloyd Senger writes:
This is my grandson Jericho's first catch ever! He caught this pike with a Len Thompson RW # 13 as
we were casting spoons from the shore of a Saskatchewan reservoir. He was totally thrilled and now has a new hobby, collecting Len Thompson spoons.

From Right to Left: Terry Mah, Larry Michielsen, and David Thacker proudly display some Sunday morning pike from Gull Lake. There were
plenty of fish in the boat that morning, including a couple nice walleye, caught on #1 red & white, brass & flame, reverse red, and nickel blue.
Larry smoked the fillets from his 36" pike in a True North smoker the next day -- very tasty!

Wayne Brown shares this story and interesting (!) photo:
To say I like using Len Thompson Lures, would be an understatement. I had a Len Thompson five of diamonds lure tatooed on by back.
While fishing on my favorite speck lake in Elk Lake, Ontario in March on one of those hot spring days that you could tan, I had missed a serious bite. While rebaiting my len thompson five of diamonds, a two pound male speck leaped up from the hole and went for my lure tatoo. He landed back in the hole, but came back to hit the real thing.
You know that great fishing stories make tall tales then tall tales also make great fishing stories. You be the Judge.
Your lure has put more fish in my frying pan than Captain Highliner !
Your dedicated customer,
Wayne Brown

Brad Pallister and buddy Mitch Debelser reeled in some great looking pike and walleye from Lloyd Lake Lodge in Northern Saskatchewan. Brad writes: The first big one was probably on either a Flame and White or BF, because that is what I was using when it wasn't a Nickel Blue. Next is a good one of Mitch's 44 incher caught on a #1 NB. The last pic is to prove you can catch walleye on a Lenny! (June 2007)
|
 |
Brad Pallister sent these photos of pike from Lloyd Lake and writes: Decided to throw on a Gibbs Ruby Eye. Caught this little guy on a #3 1/2 flame and white ruby eye. Followed up with this big guy on the same Gibbs spoon a short time later. Dad (Richard) was sad it wasn't on a Lenny, but at least it was 'in the family'! (June 2007)

 |
Mike Staley forwarded us a couple photos of his grandson, Walker Whitney. 6 year old Walker caught these impressive fish on Len Thompson lures at Lloyd Lake. (June 2007)
|
 |
Bruce Wilson from Saint John, New Brunswick caught this speckled trout while fishing with his dad in the East Branch Mushquash River, near Saint John. The 18 1/2" trout was fooled by Bruce's 'favorite' lure... the No. 00 Yellow and Red just as they started to troll. Bruce adds that he has caught lake trout, land locked salmon, brown trout, and small mouth bass on different sizes of 'five-of-diamonds'. (May 2007)

Greg Pallister landed this Belizean barracuda using a small spinning rod and a No. 2 Nickel/Blue (NB)
Len Thompson. Local guide, Phil, is removing the lure from the toothy critter.
Patrick called this a 'saltwater gar'. Others labelled it a 'needlefish'. Whatever it
is called, if fought like mad after smashing a No. 2 Nickel/Blue (NB) Len Thompson near the reef in Belize. (February 2007)

Jim Sutherland with an absolutely massive Kamloops (also known as a Gerrard) rainbow trout
caught (and released) on the Arrow Lakes. Jim figured the trout weighed over 20 lbs.
A No. 2 50/50 Hammered Brass & Flame (BF) Len Thompson was the ticket. Jim added that the No. 2
BF is also the "hot ticket" for bull trout when cast or trolled around stream mouths. (October 2006)

|
 |
David Vanderwolf jet boated to Wollaston Lake last summer and was rewarded with this 46 inch, 54 lb lake trout caught on a No. 1 Platinum Series Reverse Red (P RR). The fish spooled the reel, but thanks to a good knot he was able to land the beauty. (Summer 2006)

John Mooney shared the following photo of a memorial plaque "left behind (by
a group of friends) at a favorite shore lunch spot in Lake of the Woods."
According to John, Fritz Mahr was "a successful angler and good friend who
swore by Len Thompson lures. His favorites were the dimpled brass spoons
that he'd used for some 50 years. Fritz often told stories of the "good old
days" when the muskies came in hand over fist using a Len Thompson." (June
2006)

Craig Vincent from Baker Lake, Nunavut, Canada caught this flawless laker on
a No. 13X Red & White (RW) out of the Thelon River.
Craig also provided a photo of "the small one" or the "InukpakFish" caught
near Baker Lake the past winter. (August 2006)

hit with the fish!" (June, 2006)
|
 |
Dave Bosch, Nick, and Ed sent in three photos of some Lake Newell pike and the following comments.
"Just wanted to let you know that Len Thompson spoons ROCK! We caught these beauties on No.2 Black & White

 |
Lynda, a former employee at Thompson-Pallister, proudly sent this
photo. The 32" Big Horn Dam lake trout was taken on a No. 13X RW
spoon. Lynda happily explained that the guys she was fishing with
were pretty jealous when she caught another laker on a No. 1 YR later
that day. "Soon they were looking for lures just like hers." (October

Jim Sutherland from Freedom RV wanted to show website visitors what happens when you forget your Len Thompson lures. Jim seemed quite bitter with the obvious lack of success compared to his buddy Sheldon Sherman in the photo below. Apparently, Sheldon would not have caught his fish had Jim not "donated the (No. 2 RR) spoon to him."
|
 |
Sheldon Sherman of Reel Fishing Adventures in Sicamous, BC caught this 8 1/2 pound beauty while trolling at about 2 mph with 250' of line out and no weight. Sheldon claims that, at this time of year, trolling on the surface can be dynamite at times. (January 2005)

One of the CBC North's most popular promotional items is a "Hooked on Radio"
fishing lure. Listeners love them. CBC North Yukon Radio Program Manager
Frank Fry (on the right) caught a 4 foot sturgeon in the Fraser River near
Mission, B.C. with one. Frank volunteered to "do a TV show, fishing at
different locations around the World, catching fresh and saltwater species
using only CBC North lures." He claimed from "first hand experience",
that the CBC lure caught chinook & sockeye salmon, lake trout, pike, and
Florida tarpon. (July 2004)
[Note: The CBC Hooked on Radio lure is a custom lure from Len Thompson.]

Angus Kelly writes: This fish was caught by my buddy Jamie. He caught
this 20-24 inch Pike with a #4 red and white, on the last mountain lake in
shallow water in the rocks in early Sep/03. This Pike was 10-13lbs and was
the largest fish he had caught out of that lake...All we want to say is Len
Thompson hooks are the only hooks to fish with, thanks Len!

spoons before we started fishing the Winnipeg River in Manitoba.
The green frog spoon seen in the picture was given to us by the

last hours of our trip. What a way to end a vacation! Thank you
Len Thompson for this and many great memories!

One of the Roney group's muskie (31 inch). All but the smallmouth
bass were caught during one day of muskie fishing. There were 7
anglers including the guide. Pat Roney, his son Eddie, and his
nephew's son fished with Len Thompson lures. The rest of the
crew, including the guide, used more traditional muskie lures. All
of the muskies were caught on Len Thompson lures, which really
surprised the guide. Pat hopes these pictures will help prove
that our lures do catch muskie. He has been a "big fan of our
lures for years."

Both fish were caught on Len Thompson 5 of Diamonds and were both
released. The pike's measurements were never recorded. I will be
prepared to record the measurements this year when I catch her again!
The Inconnu are distributed throughout the Yukon North Slope rivers
and lakes, the Mackenzie River, and the Great Slave. From what I
understand, they are very difficult to catch for the angler unless
caught in their spawning run which occurs in the fall. At this time
they are extremely plentiful and easy to catch. There sporting quality
is much like that of a pike/walleye mix. Lots of heavy head shakes
followed by poweful runs... an exciting fish to catch. The one shown
in the picture I forwarded to you is by no means a record. Inconnu can
grow in excess of a meter long and can weigh up to 30lbs. Most of the
ones we caught were between 5 and 15lbs.

Sean Dyer raves: Another successful trip at Way North Lodge in Northwestern Ontario using the #4
Five of Diamonds. It clearly out fished everything else at the lodge. I caught about 25, 36 to 45 inch pike

This fellow pegged my guide's scale at 50 pounds! I caught him in about 15 feet of water on 20-pound test line and netted him

Calvin Kruger with his spectacular Kootenay Lake rainbow. Calvin's dad, Paul reported:
We caught the fish on Kootenay lake BC on July 20th fishing 50 feet down on
a downrigger. Calvin pulled the fish to the surface after it bit but when it
caught sight of the boat it wanted nothing to do with us and it ran with the
line down as far as he could. The fight lasted 20-25 minutes when we finally
netted the fish we were both exhausted and ecstatic. My wife and younger son
were in camp and knew what was going on because in the middle of the fight
they radioed us and asked how we doing; we said "PRAY THAT WE GET THIS FISH"
I'll remember this forever and I think Calvin will too it was a pretty big
deal for a 12 year old.
We headed straight for camp and paraded the fish around; and watched all the
other fishermen head out and pound the waves after they saw what we caught.
A lot of people had no idea that you can catch trout on spoons.
The fish was 30-1/2" long and weighed 10 pounds.

 | I am so glad you now have a website and a way for me to buy your lures directly. I live in Colorado and have had limited success in purchasing Len Thompson spoons. We have had much success with the flame and white (caught 44", 47" and 42" pike in one hour), with the red and white and GREAT success with the black and white - all on number 4's. I am enclosing a picture of my son, Brent Sauerhagen, with his 49" Northern Pike caught August 12, 2000 at Lake Athabasca. We were fishing from Cliff and Stella Blackmur's Athabasca Fishing Camps.
