Each year, we like to post a “Best of the Year" list to highlight our favourite memories and biggest wins.
We celebrated a full year of Hot Spot! Last year, when our staff was asked to reflect on 2024, the acquisition of Hot Spot in May 2024 was easily the biggest highlight. We were all busy renovating, packing, shipping, training, unpacking, organizing, catalogue building, spreadsheeting, troubleshooting, growing, learning, building… In 2025, we couldn’t be prouder of our team who continued to find their stride. Production of Hot Spot and Apex is now in full swing with an expanded staff in Lacombe, Alberta.
We published our 50th podcast episode!
The Canadian Fishing Podcast launched three years ago. This year we published our 50th episode! Our special guest was Jay Siemens. Check out the podcast on Spotify, Apple Podcasts or at www.lenthompson.com/podcast.
We went fishing!
Brad and I rarely have the opportunity to fish together. In 2024, at an Alberta Wildlife Federation event, Brad bid on a trip to Lac La Matre Lodge in the live auction. We redeemed the trip this summer, heading up to Yellowknife, NWT for an adventure. The accommodations and fishing were both excellent. A bonus was being guided by our friend, Adam Gamble (Adam's Angling Adventures) who happens to make an unbelievable bannock fish burger shore lunch. Here are a few photos from our trip of a lifetime...
Also, I might get in trouble if I did not mention that Richard and Brad visited Wilderness Family Outfitters where Brad officially broke the family record for largest Pike at 46” (to beat my 45” record, caught in 2019). Note, this was not MY favourite highlight as a some-what competitive younger sibling, but I must pass on the crown humbly.
We paraded at Lacombe Days!
Every year, our staff members bug us about entering the Lacombe Days parade. This year, we relented and boy, oh boy, we had some fun. We sweetened the experience with a little bet with Brad on social media. The video is below.
We kept going! In business, some years are harder than others. We had some major business challenges this year, including the bankruptcy of one of our largest distributors, Big Rock Sports. This really disrupted the flow of product and meant empty shelves at Canadian Tire, Wal Mart, and many independent dealers who relied on BRS for product. Several people reach out to ask if we had gone out of business. Rest assured, we have not! We continue to make lures every day in Lacombe, Alberta and are working to get a few new back end channels set up to re-stock those shelves for the spring. Thanks for sticking it out with us and for supporting our Canadian made lures and family business. Here’s to 2026! Happy New Year! Jess Pallister, Co-Owner
