Rick's Retrospect - How to catch more fish

Fish the Bottom.  I know; it’s self-serving.  The bottom is where the snags are, you’ll lose some lures and I sell fishing lures.  I like making fishing lures but I also like seeing anglers be successful.
“Reel in slower,” he suggested.  I turned the crank on my open face reel agonizingly slowly.
Many years ago, I was fishing with my Dad on the Tseaux River north of Terrace, BC.  It’s a beautiful river and has a very successful annual run of large Cohos that spawn in a protected area of the river above the Highway 113 called Spencer Lake.  While they are between the Nass River and Hwy 113, there are some fabulous fishing holes and lots of fish, if you have it timed correctly.  Cecil and I had taken a short cut across the lava beds (not recommended) and arrived at a secluded, deep pool.
Dad quickly caught his two keepers.  I hadn’t had a nibble.  I asked what to do.  “Reel in slower,” he suggested.  I turned the crank on my open face reel agonizingly slowly.  A few minutes later I heard, “Reel in slower.”  I finally did as I was told, slowed down to the point that I was sure there was no action left on the spoon, and quickly caught my two keepers.

Fish the Bottom if you want to catch fish.
